Ashtree Honeybee

Southern California native with a wild wolf heart. I feel most alive in the garden, cooking up delicious meals in the kitchen, or in bed with a good book and my man bear. Explorer of the mind, adventurer of the soul. I enjoy camera clicks, homemade goods, baby giggles, and open country.

Growing space

Good morning friends! This week I had the joy of trying out my first roll of color film in the old Canon AE-1 that Scott gave me last year. It was a breath of fresh air after all of my battles with black and white film processing, developing and printing last semester. I was really pleased with the results and you can check out the whole batch here.

We had a stroke of warm weather hit San Diego this week, and it has given everything in the garden quite the growing jolt. It seems I can never find enough space for all the pots and plants I have, especially as I share a house with four other people and our yard is shared. Last week I got this idea from my wonderful neighbor Sarah, to turn old jars into hanging pots using gauged wire and a nail.

Not only does it save space, but with clippings of succulents being a dime a dozen (I found all these without leaving my yard), this is a beautiful and inexpensive way to showcase some native greens. Although they won’t last more than a week or two in water, I plan to root them in rocks and sphagnum moss for long-term growing.
